Pregnant Women Health: A Look at DeQuervain's Tendonitis

A proud mother of a beautiful baby boy named Carson and a good friend of Fitness4Baby was diagnosed with DeQuervain’s Tendonitis. Upon her request we will provide you with the current information on this common issue for new mothers.

An article from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) explains in detail what Dequervain’s Tendonitis is and its cause and treatment. I have included the link for you below.

Click here to read the article.

So what can you do to prevent this from happening?

  • Awareness, Awareness, Awareness

Tendonitis is caused by repetitive movements. For example, if you always carry your baby in the left arm, the left hand is enduring the repetitive stress for a period of time. Do your best to switch sides and use both arms equally. As well, if you hold your wrist straight or in a “neutral” position, the tendon will have more room and the risk of irritation can be diminished.

Fitness4Baby is a big believer in awareness of how you move, stand, and hold your posture. It is not a cure and it will not completely prevent things from happening. It can however decrease your odds a bit.

If you have any follow up questions or concerns please contact us at: info@fitness4baby.com or post a comment directly.

Sincerely,

Fitness4Baby
