The push-up will strengthen the chest, shoulders and triceps. Your hands should be place a little wider than shoulder width apart. Your core must remain tight throughout so your body will move as one complete unit. As you descend, squeeze your shoulder blades together and lower your shoulders so the tension stays away from the upper trap area. Remember to breath throughout. If you like, exhale as you push up. However, if you are using shallow rhythmical breathing you should be fine.
