A Pregnancy Fitness Routine May Improve Your Body Image

A Fitness4Baby client once told me she wanted to "feel comfortable in her own skin." With her first child she did not exercise, ate what ever she wanted and did not feel comfortable. Her second pregnancy was going to be different so she called us. When it came time to take her pregnancy photos, after months of hard work and consistent exercise, her confidence and beauty jumped out of those photos. It was clear she was "comfortable in her own skin."

When I was studying Sport and Exercise Psychology, body image and the effect of negative or positive thoughts about that was, and still is a hot topic. Exercise does wonders for improving perception of self. So when you combine the drastic changes in a woman's body during pregnancy and body image, the impact on a pregnant woman's health, positive of negative, takes on increased importance.

Our friends at the American Pregnancy Association have pointed out the positive effects of exercise on a pregnant woman's body image. They say, "Exercise during pregnancy can help you feel fit, strong, and sexy."
