An article from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) explains in detail what Dequervain’s Tendonitis is and its cause and treatment. I have included the link for you below.Click here to read the article.
So what can you do to prevent this from happening?
- Awareness, Awareness, Awareness
Tendonitis is caused by repetitive movements. For example, if you always carry your baby in the left arm, the left hand is enduring the repetitive stress for a period of time. Do your best to switch sides and use both arms equally. As well, if you hold your wrist straight or in a “neutral” position, the tendon will have more room and the risk of irritation can be diminished.
Fitness4Baby is a big believer in awareness of how you move, stand, and hold your posture. It is not a cure and it will not completely prevent things from happening. It can however decrease your odds a bit.
